In early 2020, a group of villagers came together to discuss ways to counter climate change through local action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption, and to protect our natural environment. Having undertaken surveys on climate change, plus transport (after this featured heavily as a major concern for villagers in the first survey), we are moving forward in 2025 to seek the views of villagers on the possibility of a 20mph speed limit in parts of Mickleton.
There is good evidence that this can lead to a 25%+ reduction in accidents, increased safety for cyclists and pedestrians - particularly for our elderly, infirm and schoolchildren – together with health benefits from reduced traffic pollution, increased socialisation and fitness. We are liaising with the Parish Council to undertake the survey.
Other current projects include aiming to help place bicycle stands across the village donated to Mickleton via grant, and on the establishment of a cross-Mickleton Hedgehog Highways’ project liaising with the school and Parish Council. We also wish to continue a series of blogs and articles to further education in climate mitigation.
