Meon Singers

Meon Singers

Meon Singers, founded in 1976, still have two founder members singing. The founders aimed to present public recitals and concerts for the enjoyment of local residents ‘by any means the Committee see fit’ and it is our aim to continue this to the best standard that we can achieve.

We are currently just over 30 singers from Mickleton and surrounding villages and towns. Since Sept. 2017 we have been led by

two highly professional musical directors, Rebecca Mills and Richard Sampson-Marr

We welcome singers of any age, experienced or not, who enjoy music; perhaps you sang a while ago and want to restart. We want members to enjoy singing with others and to make friends while improving their singing. Our repertoire covers folk songs to classical/ modern composers, musicals, religious music, all in 3 or 4-part harmony; so, something for everyone! There are also opportunities to learn to read music, to have singing lessons and to sing in smaller groups or to solo.

Normally we rehearse weekly on Thursday evenings 7.30 - 9pm at King George’s Hall with breaks for Easter, summer and Bank Holidays with two concerts here in Mickleton in May/June and December and we aim to fulfil other invitations and bookings for the whole choir or smaller groups if at all possible.

We aim to perform more than one concert per term’s repertoire, to support good causes, to continue to attract private bookings (and other forms of funding to help achieve this), and to be in a position to accept more invitations to sing both within Mickleton and outside.
